Simple troubleshooting - [most common issues]
1. Problems with SpO2 or heart rate
If you aren't getting the SpO2 consistently or frequently enough, consider these options.
- Remove any SpO2 clock face and the SpO2 tracker app and gain 2 days extra battery life per charge.
- Buy a $20 dedicated Bluetooth Oximeter which will give you instant and accurate SpO2 and heart rate results whenever you want, such as:
- No longer a need to worry why the watch or App SpO2 or HRV is not working.
- Have an immediate correct heart rate reading.
- Example heart rate comparison. Showing instant SpO2 96% with HR 79 and watch HR 112.
2. Problems with sudden short battery life
If the battery life suddenly changes following
- A firmware update [done by you],
- A Fitbit App update [may be its automatically silently updated from the store],
- Your current clock face updated [silently during charging, or manually done].
Note: You can check in the store or the clock face install description when there were recent updates,
In the Fitbit App, click Profile photo and Help & Support to see the current installed version.
In the clock face install description, if it doesn't propose an update then that is the level currently installed.
To see firmware level if the watch is synced, in the Fitbit App click Profile photo and Device photo.
- try restarting the watch
- try disabling the phone's Bluetooth [if this restores normal battery usage it may be a result of a fault in the Fitbit App]
- try temporarily changing clock face to a Fitbit one [if this restores normal battery usage it may be a fault in the updated clock face]
See also section 5
3. Problems syncing
If you can, install and use the SimpleCheckUp app.
- It can always tell you when the watch last synced,
- It can always tell you if the watch can talk to the phone.
- try restarting the watch.
- try restarting the phone.
- try logout of the Fitbit App [you will need the password to login again, if its not saved on the phone].
- On Android, login to the Fitbit App, go to the phone's home screen without closing the App.
- Click on the popup sync notification and wait for it to pair, link or Fixit prompts.
4. Problems staying synced
If you can, install and use the SimpleCheckUp app.
- It can always tell you when the watch last synced,
- It can always tell you if the watch can talk to the phone.
- try restarting the watch.
- try restarting the phone.
- Make sure the phone is not closing either Bluetooth or the Fitbit App to save battery.
4. Problems with time
If you can, install and use the SimpleCheckUp app.
- It can always tell you which time zone your watch is set on,
- It can always tell you when the watch last synced,
- It can always tell you if the watch can talk to the phone.
- Check your phone time is correct and is set to network time.
- Check the Fitbit App is set to automatic time zone [Profile photo, App settings].
- Check your watch is synced.
The time may be set when the watch is charging at more than 50% battery and in range of it's wifi connection.
Note: If the watch is not syncing it cannot set the time, unless it happens while charging.
If a watch is losing [or gaining] time between normal charges [every 4 to 6 days] at a rate of more than 10 seconds per month it may be faulty.
5-a. Problems charging your Sense or Versa 3 - Sense 2 /Versa 4
These watches have been out a year and if your watch stops charging out of warranty you may need a new charge cable.
This one from China is better made, more sturdy than
the original and only costs less than $3,
comes in short cable for
travel [30 cm, 1 foot] or long for home [1m or 3 feet].
The pins are longer and more firmly positioned.
It may be useful to have one on standby given the problems with the original cables.
5-b. Problems charging your Sense / Versa 3 - Sense 2 / Versa 4
Consider getting a charge tester to see how/whether your watch is charging properly.
This enables you to see the charge your watch is taking which varies on the model and state of charge.
Typical charging rate values @ 10% battery level
a) Versa, Versa Lite - 130 ma
b) Versa 2 - 135 ma
b) Sense, Versa 3 - 310 ma
c) Sense 2, Versa 4 - 130 ma
When the battery is fully charged this descends to 0 ma, or if it is not charging
(Click on photos for more details)
Basic Charge Doctor tester - $1.80
Sophisticated Atorch Tester - $8.28
Consider this also if powering from Mac or other USB C power sources
USB-C to USB-A adapter Adapter - $0.72
6. Face detached from body, change look, or screen protection - simple solutions
(Click on photos for more details)
a) If you want to protect you screen from knocks or paint etc. try a screen protector
EG. Versa 2 - Screen protector 5pc $3.91
Comes in various colours for changing look and for most watches
Easily removed for charging on pre Versa 3 models
b) If your screen is detached and out of warranty a rugged band may be the answer.
Rugged watch strap Versa/Sense - $5.02
Rugged watch strap Versa3/4 Sense 1/2 - $4.41
If you want to re-glue the face consult the forums
7. Get phone battery state notifications on your watch (Android)
Using MacroDroid
on your Android phone, which allows for 5 free macros, create one macro
like this,
and in the Fitbit App Device, Notifications, App
notifications, select MacroDroid
The definition process is:
Open MacroDroid
Click Macros at the bottom
Click + at the bottom
In Triggers, click Battery level, and ok in the popup
Slide to the desired level and click ok
Repeat for as many levels as you need alerts for, then
Click Actions at the top
Click Display Notification
Enter title = Phone Battery
Enter Notification text ,as shown above
Click ok
Click tick and give the macro a name
That's it !
Each
time the phone battery falls to a level you have selected in your macro
you will receive a message on your watch, if it is Bluetooth connectable at that time.
Of course it can be used to alert you of other events with additional macros.
8. Problems with specific Notifications not arriving on the watch (Android)
If after defining Notifications, App Notifications in
the Fitbit App the messages still do not arrive on the watch but others
do,
Consider Macrodroid - it has 5 macros free.
The macro is simple:
Trigger: Detect the specific App notification
Action: Delete it and issue a Macrodroid one
Of course Macrodroid needs to be added to the list of apps that messages show on the watch
